Wasps, bees and hornets are often put alongside each other, so there is some unclarity over if they all have the same "mother", Päivätär. The name Kuutar is also sometimes mentioned alongside.
The wasp is called the "bird of Hiisi": Louhi commanded the wasp to carry snake poison into iron's quenching water. This is what caused iron to break the oath of not hurting humans which it made to its creator, Ilmarinen.
While wasps were usually disliked and avoided for their stinging, wasp nests were also buried in sheephouses to make sheep more fertile (as wasps are very numerous). As a downside, this could result in colourful sheep.
