The world is divided into the upper layer (Ylinen), middle layer (Keskinen), and bottom layer (Alinen). Ylinen and Alinen very simply describe the Heavens and the Underworld, making them Päivölä and Pohjola respectively. According to Kaarle Krohn, the name "Ilmola" would've been used of Keskinen, the "layer" that we are on.
