The Drinking Party of Saariala

No coherent narrative here. We only have bits and pieces, and even the more coherent versions from Karelia and Ingria are corrupted. Let me explain: there is a divine banquet held in Päivölä, the heavens, with Päivätär as the hostess; OR a banquet in Saariala, island in the center of the world, with Ahti Saarelainen as the host. One person, Kaukomieli, is not invited but goes anyways, causing trouble and possibly killing someone (Ahti or Veitikka) and escaping. That's one possibility. However, Karelian runosingers couldn't agree on if this banquet was held in Päivölä, the heavens, or Pohjola, the Underworld. Therefore, another version exists where an evil banquet or wedding is held in Pohjola and Lemminkäinen, the son of Päivätär, has not been invited but decides to go anyway, the story then mixing up with the Song of Lemminkäinen.

As it's basically impossible for me to "separate" these versions, do not be confused as below, it is sometimes called a banquet in Päivölä and sometimes in Pohjola. Interestingly, the one here who was not invited was a son from "the house of a harlot", implying that it is in fact a son of the Underworld instead, truly a total opposite of Lemminkäinen. Ahti, Kauko and Veitikka, central characters in Ingrian runosongs, still make an appearance but not more than that as they are rarely mentioned in Finnish runosongs. Below, you will see symbolic references to all places Päivölä, Saariala and Pohjola.

The word juutas obviously comes from the Christian figure Judas Iscariot, but in Finnish runosongs, it is a general word for an evil being, a demon, etc.

Herroilla on hyvät hevoiset
Hyvät varsat vanhemmilla
Tunturilla on tuimat ruunat
Vallan valkoiset orit
Joita juutas juoksuteli
Kaha käsin kalliolla
Rautasilla ratahilla
Vaskisilla valjahilla
Säkeit sorkista sätisi
Savu suihtui sieramista
Häitä hitolla piettiin
Paha joukko juominkia
Kaikki häihen kutsuttiin
Mut ei porttolan talosta
Isä kielti, äiti käski
Manasi kavetta kaksi:
"Ällös läkki poikueni
Tuonne Päivölän pittoin
Suuren joukon juominkiin
Monet on kummat matkoissasi
Monet teissäsi imehet"
"Vaan näin sano Savon näkijä
Minun paapani Savoissa
Joroisihin joutuvani
Vaan minä en sinä ikänä
Näkijälle kättä näytä
Näkijät valehtelevat"
Ajoi tänne, ajoi tuonne
Ajoi Hiitolan pihallen
Kussa häijyt häitä piti
Paha joukko juominkia
Hirnuipa Hiitolan orit
Rapa raikui sieramista
Hopialta suitet hohti
Kullalta satulan sarvet
Noien Hiitolan hevoisten
En ole runon sukua
Enkä laulujen laatija
Ulkoa runoja kuulin
Läpi seinän laulettavan
Laattialla Lappalaista
Sillon siivolla puhelit
Lapin lahtitanterilla
Ahin pellon pyörtänöllä
Yksi Ahti, toinen Kauko
Kolmas Veitikka veräjä
Juopu Ahti, juopu Kauko
Juopu Veitikka veräjä
Saarialan juomingista
Silloin laskit laulamahan
Viisahasti viilettelit
Opetit osan minulle
Sen mä tuolloin kyllä tunsin
Koska häijyt häitä piti
Paha joukko juominkia:
Ei siellä kuokkia kuhtuttu
Nurkka vyrrijä vaaittu
Olut kannun kaatajaksi
Ihte hurjat häänsä joivat
Pahat pitonsa pitivät
Mie vaan olin ovensuussa
Koko illan ikävässä
Muut ne perällä pehteli
Mekaloitti melkosesti
Sekä lummit että pommit
Kuin myös ruset ruupu housut
Joill' on nurin nuttu päällä
Takki tappuran sekanen
Hihkasipa Hiitolan isäntä
Rajahutti rapuiltansa:
"Häitä Hiito pitääpi
Paha joukko juomingia
Tulepa juutaskin tupaani
Mitäs ulvot uksen eissä!
Pistä kättä kämmeneen
Istu ilolla rahillen
Pane nuuskua nenäsi
Vaskisesta vakkaisesta
Anna tuosta Antilleni
Pistä Paavoillen poroja!"
Tuotinpa tuomallai
Kyllin pöyvällen pötyä
Vielä viinoa viljaltani
Olutta kahella kapalla
Olipa tuota juuttani juua
Lakkia aika rattini
Mitä syötiin noissa häissä
Noissa häissä Syöjättären
Syöjättären syöminkissä
Juojattaren juominkissa
Pitkähäntäsen pidoissa?
Luut lihoista, päät kaloista
Kaalit kaikki naurihista
Palanehet leivänkuoret

The ones in power have fine horses
The elders have fine foals
The fells have fierce geldings
The white stallions of power
Which juutas made run
With (two?/trap-like?) hands on a rock (/or drove recklessly on a rock?)
On an iron wagon
With a copper harness
Sparks flew from the hooves
Smoke came from the nostrils
A wedding was held in Hiisi
An evil bunch was holding a drinking party
Everyone was invited
But not from the house of a harlot
Father denied, mother forbid
Two luonnottaret cursed:
"Don't go, my son
To that banquet in Päivölä
To the drinking party of a great bunch
There are many strange things on your way
Many miracles on your path"
"But thus was said by a seer of Savo
My (grand?)father in Savo
That I should move along to Joroinen
But I will never
Show my hand to a seer
For seers are liars"
Rode here, rode there
Rode to the yard of Hiitola
Where the wicked ones were holding a wedding
The evil bunch a drinking party
The stallions of Hiitola neighed
Dirt blared from their nostrils
Their bridles shone with silver
The horns of the saddles with gold
Of those horses of Hiitola
I am not of a runosinger family
Nor am I a maker of songs
I heard runosongs outdoors
To be sung through the walls
(A Sámi song on the floor? / On the floor then to one from the Underworld?)
You addressed decently
On the inlet fields of Lappi
Around the field of Ahti
One was Ahti, another one was Kauko
The third one was the ardent Veitikka
Ahti got drunk, Kauko got drunk
The ardent Veitikka got drunk
At the drinking party of Saariala
Then, you began to sing
Went on wisely
Taught a part of it to me
I surely felt that then
When the wicked ones were holding a wedding
The evil bunch a drinking party:
An uninvited guest was not invited
Corner (??) not demanded
To pour beer from a pitcher
The fierce ones drank for themselves in their wedding
The evil ones held their banquet
I was simply in the doorway
Feeling down all night
While others went wild in the back
Made a lot of noise
Both (??) and (??)
As well as drunk (??) pants
Who were wearing their jackets inside out
Coats mixed with waste fibers
The Lord of Hiitola called out
Yelled on his entrance:
"Hiitola is holding a wedding
The evil bunch a drinking party
Come into my house too, juutas
What are you whining in front of the door!
Put a hand in hand
Sit onto the bench with joy
Put some snuff into your nose
From a copper container
Give some to my Antti
And some grounds to Paavo!"
And they truly brought in
Plenty of food on the table
An adundance of booze
Two kappa-fulls (+/- 5 litres) of beer
There was enough even for juutas to drink
To lap (??)
What was eaten in that wedding
That wedding of Syöjätär
Feast of Syöjätär
Drinking party of Juojatar
The banquet of a long-tailed one?
Bones from meat, heads from fish
All cabbages from turnips
Burnt bread crusts

One runosong states: Katot nyt koti korkea näkyy / Aitta armas tiirottaa "The roofs of my beloved home can be seen / The beloved granary is peaking" which would be the last words until a person returning home drowns in a rapid, so he should've listened to the warnings in the beginning.
