Harnessing väki

Incantations for harnessing different kinds of väki. If many of them sounds similar, it's because many come from the same North Ostrobothnian tietäjä, Jaakko Tolvander.

Väki of Thunder

To harness the väki of thunder, you typically need to collect dirt during a thunderstorm, or a shive from a tree struck by lightning. Little stones from the edge of a puddle formed on a rock during a thunderstorm is also ok. While doing this, chant the incantation.

Oi ukko ylijumala
Vaari vanha taivahainen
Lähe kansani kylähän
Puolestani puhumahan
Vierestäni virkkamahan!
Minä mies vähäväkinen
Uros heikko hengellinen

SKVR XII1 3715

Oh ukko, high god
Old celestial grandfather
Come with me to the village/for a visit
To speak on my behalf
To state next to me!
I am a man of little power
A male with weak spirit

Väki of Forge

To harness the väki of a forge, you go into the forge before sunrise, push the bellows nine times, take ashes into a white cloth thrice with the blade of a knife, and chant:

Liekkö miestä lietsehellä
Alla ahjojen apua
Miehen ainoan avuksi
Yksinäisen ympärille
Vasten muita vastuksia
Vasten vastuksen väkeä
Tämän auringon ijäksi
Miehen poijan polvueksi?

SKVR XII1 3705

Could there be a man at the blower
Help beneath the forge
To be the only help of a man
Around a lonely one
Against other opponents
Against the väki of the opponent
For the age of this Sun
For the generation of a man's son?

Then, three drops of blood from the ring finger of the left hand is shed into the forge. The last two lines emphasize this väki is being harnessed for eternity. Close the rag with a red thread and carry it in your left armpit.

Väki of Fire

To harness the väki of fire, take ash from three roots of a tree that was burned in a forest fire with the blade of a knife and put it in a white rag and chant:

Onko poikaa panulla
Mielismiestä tulosella
Miehen ainoan avuksi
Yksinäisen ympärille
Vasten muita vastuksia
Vasten vastuksen väkeä
Tämän auringon ajaksi
Miehen poijan polvueksi?

SKVR XII1 3711

Is there a son by panu (fire)
A favourable man by the fire
To be the only help of a man
Around a lonely one
Against other opponents
Against the väki of the opponent
For the age of this Sun
For the generation of a man's son?

Then, three drops of blood from the ring finger of the left hand is shed onto each root. Close the rag with a red thread and carry it in your left armpit. The väki of fire manifests as lightning around this before an event.

Väki of Rock

To harness the väki of rock/stone, take water from a pond on rock which has no rivers, put in blood from three forest animals as well as your own left hand ring finger, make a fire on the rock and make the water boil, pour some o the water on the rock three times and then take some of that boiling foam and ash and chant:

Liekkö vuoressa miestä
Liekkö poikoa pohjasella
Alla kallion apua
Kihlahuivin kiiltäväistä
Vaskivöisin välkkäväistä?
Anna nyt ukko unkertasi
Miesväki voimovasi
Alta kallion apuva
Voimaksi vähäväkisen!

SKVR XII1 3634
SKVR XII1 3632

Could there be a man in the mountain
Could there be a son in the north
Help beneath the rock
A shining engagement scarf
A sparkling copper belt?
Give now, man, your [?]
Men, your power
Help from beneath the rock
To be the power of the weak!

Or alternatively just strike a rock thrice and chant.

Väki of the Tar Pit

To harness the väki of a tar pit, go to a tar pit the creator which is unknown. Put three pieces of wood to smoulder there, go around the pit thrice while not covering your head, and put in three drops of blood from your left hand ring finger. Chant:

En sinua kullin kutsu
Hopealla houkuttele
Kutsun kullan kantajalla
Hopean vajehtajalla
Katehia kaatamahan
Vastuksia voittamahan

I do not summon you with gold
Tempt you with silver
I summon with the carrier of gold
The [?] of silver
To topple kades
To defeat opponents

Then take ash from the pit thrice with the blade of a knife.

Tuli kokko metsän äijä
Metsän kaarron kaunis vaimo
Nosta poikasi porosta
Tyttäresi typenestä
Miehen ainoan avuksi
Yksinäisen ympärille

SKVR XII1 3709

Kokko/bonfire, lord of the forest came
The beautiful woman of the forest arch
Rise your son from the ashes
Your daughter from the embers
To be the only help of a man
Around a lonely one

And a small flame you see comes with you. Then you can go to graveyards with no worry and do all kinds of other sick stuff. [The runosinger's words, not mine!]
