Etelätär

Names: Etelätär
Suetar
Suvetar

Etelätär is the luonnotar of southern wind. Southern and eastern wind is protective, just like those cardinal directions are connected to life. Northern and western wind is harmful with evil beings on the move, just like those cardinal directions are connected to death. Therefore, the ideal time to let cows to pasture is when the southern wind is blowing and its raining, as the rain is seen as healing. In runosongs, Etelätär is asked to protect cattle and bring refreshing wind and healing rain. Interestingly despite this, Ganander called her "the sunny weather itself".
